David Goldstein didn’t know much about cannabis until a few of his relatives were diagnosed with cancer about a decade ago. Determined to help, Goldstein began searching for alternative options to the opiate-based medicines they were given. He saw the therapeutic potential of cannabis after looking at the scientific work on the plant in Israel. In the U.S., though, he found very little research, spurring him to found Potbotics with his father in 2014.
“It bothered me that there was no hard science here, and so we came up with something called Brainbot, which uses an EEG to look at a patient’s neurological response to cannabis’ terpenes and cannabinoids,” Goldstein says.
Collecting data from Brainbot, the company then launched Potbot — an iTunes app and website that uses the information to recommend specific terpenes and cannabinoids to patients suffering from 28 aliments.
“We give the patients all the scientific research, and then we get to a series of strains based on those cannabinoid and terpene recommendations,” Goldstein says.
