William Simpson Age: 37 Company: Chalice Farms Position: Founder “We have our sights on other markets as well,” founder William Simpson says. Like so many entrepreneurs, Simpson found his way into the cannabis industry first as a medical marijuana patient.
The Chalice Farms founder was very active in sports in his younger days, and sustained several injuries from competing in martial arts, football and wrestling.
About 15 years ago, a friend talked to him about trying marijuana as an alternative to the pharmaceuticals he was using for pain. It worked so well that Simpson began growing cannabis himself and learning as much as he could about it.
As his passion for the plant grew, he decided to leave his career in the finance industry and start a cannabis business.
Simpson opened his first licensed medical dispensary in 2013, and used that store to develop a business plan and executive summary.
