Scott Roehrick has been pushing the envelope of cannabis tech for more than a decade.
As the vice president of AI and ecommerce for BLAZE, he is now helping operators, budtenders and consumers alike connect with their data through the company’s groundbreaking tools such as Herbie and Lighthouse.
Lighthouse is a data analysis tool that lives in the point-of-sale system, helping retail managers understand everything from margins to their best-selling days of the week and everything in between.
Herbie is an AI budtender — but it’s much more sophisticated than most virtual budtenders that simply follow a flow-chart of pre-determined questions and answers to push a product in front of a shopper.
Herbie uses conversational AI, whittling down recommendations for shoppers based on purchase history, deals and other information, as well as “most importantly, the context of the actual conversation that you’re in” Roehrick says.
“Herbie helps you understand the right products, product discovery, as well as what’s going on with these deals and how to get the best one,” he says.
Roehrick came to the industry as a web developer, focusing his energy on SEO over paying for a Weedmaps account. By being an outlier, he was able to use data as an acquirable asset for the businesses he worked with, leading him to form the software company Tymber, which was ultimately acquired by BLAZE in 2023.
