Davis Tiburzi was fascinated with both entrepreneurship and cannabis at an early age, but the two interests didn’t intersect until he was much older.
“For close to a decade I was lucky enough to be mentored in print technologies and processes in my last job, which provided a notable edge in understanding all components of packaging and manufacturing,” Tiburzi says. “With the opportunities in the evolving cannabis space and the experience I had, it was a bit of a match made in heaven and thus CannaZip was born.”
Tiburzi launched CannaZip in November 2021, and the company has fast become one of the nation’s largest providers of packaging for cannabis operators.
“Our growth has been pretty astounding — beyond my expectations, which has been very rewarding,” he says. “We’ve seen triple growth year over year which has helped to expand our market presence and provide our much-needed products and services to the market.”
Tiburzi expects the company’s growth to continue even in the coming years with thanks in part to strategic alliances and new product lines launching soon. While he attributes the growth to his company’s high standards and knowledge of the packaging industry, he also credits the plant itself.
“Growing the plant, how it inspires deep thought and insight and relaxation has been an inspiration to think outside the box and approach life in a less-than-conventional manner,” he says.
Q&A
Describe your transition into cannabis, what did you find compelling? Why packaging?
I’ve always had an interest in both business/entrepreneurship and Cannabis since I was younger. Between the multiple medicinal properties, benefits and the fun that comes along with it, it’s always been something that peaked my interest. Growing the plant, how it inspires deep thought and insight, and relaxation has been an inspiration to think outside the box and approach life in a less than conventional manner. I used to, and still somewhat do, sell commercial print equipment which helped provide the background and experience to understand the intricacies of packaging and manufacturing. The systems sold, ranged from 6 and 7 figures, so if you did not understand all aspects of the systems and manufacturing process, technologies etc., people won’t trust you know what you’re talking about and ultimately wouldn’t buy from you. As a result it was paramount to understand these products inside and out. For close to a decade I was lucky enough to be mentored in print technologies and processes in my last job, which provided a notable edge in understanding all components of packaging and manufacturing. With the opportunities in the evolving cannabis space and the experience I had, it was a bit of a match made in heaven…and thus CannaZip was born.
How did CannaZip secure such a good foothold in the industry?
By far our cornerstone is treating every customer like they’re our only customer, providing unparalleled attention and reliable service, high quality products, and an offering that caters to gaps within traditional packaging offerings. Our main motivation is not to solely provide packaging but to drive value with our customers. Everyone has packaging, but not everyone drives value like we do. Could you tell me a little about the company’s growth since it launched in November 2021?
Our growth has been pretty astounding; beyond my expectations, which has been very rewarding. Caring about your work, products, and most importantly your customers, speaks volumes about the integrity of the company and the great people we have working in it. We’ve seen 3x growth year over year which has helped to expand our market presence, and provide our much needed products and services to the market. We expect this trend not only to continue but to expand even further with strategic alliances that have been made, new product lines we’re launching, and the entire suite of value added products and services that go above and beyond strictly packaging products. We’re here not to just sell packaging but more importantly to drive value, make our customer’s lives easier, and bring products to market that are innovative, appealing, and enticing to legal consumers.
What is on the horizon for your business?
We have tons of new solutions we’re bringing to market this year. Much of which I cannot fully disclose until released, however, they will make our customer’s experience fast, easy, seamless, and scalable. Our goal is to drive the best value possible and we will do that in any way necessary, to grow our presence and cater to the ever evolving needs of this dynamic market. We have plans for aggressive expansion, which are underway, and plan to be the industry’s leading provider of fully customized solutions in the years ahead.
