Housing Works Cannabis Co.
New York cannabis retailer Housing Works Cannabis Co. and Florist Farms are celebrating Pride Month with the release of Pride Packs, a package of THC-infused gummies, retailing for $30. The retailer is also celebrating the month with arrival of two new pre-roll brands from LGBTQ+-owned manufacturers Drew Martin and FLAMER.
According to a press release, all proceeds from Housing Works Cannabis Co. are directed to its nonprofit parent company, Housing Works, which addresses the dual crises of HIV/AIDS and homelessness, as well as providing job opportunities, legal advocacy and comprehensive housing and health services to those in need.
Mint Cannabis
Mint Cannabis honored National Police Week by donating $1 for every pre-roll sold at its five stores on May 19 to the local law enforcement nonprofit Shotgun Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club of Arizona, which raises money to help law enforcement officers battle the mental health and post-traumatic stress disorder issues they receive while serving as first responders. In total the single-day event brough in $2,200 for the nonprofit.
Statistics show police officers have a 54% higher risk of suicide than the general population and during 2022, 180 officers took their own lives, which is nearly three times as many as those who were shot and killed in the line of duty.
“It is time that we recognize the psychological toll of wearing the badge and honor the sacrifices of police officers,” Eivan Shahara, CEO of Mint Cannabis said in a press release. “While the stresses are relentless, cops are supposed to be ‘tough.’ The perceived stigma surrounding mental health problems keeps many officers from seeking help.”
Cinder
Cinder once again took home top honors from readers of the Inlander, the weekly newspaper in Spokane, Washington, including Best Retail Cannabis, Best Budtender and Best CBD section. Cinder has been voted Best Retail Cannabis by Inlander readers for four consecutive years.
The retail chain, which includes three stores in the greater Spokane area, as well as a storefront in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and another store opening soon in Las Cruces, New Mexico, has won 19 awards from publication since 2015.
Organic Remedies
Pennsylvania cannabis company Organic Remedies recently became the first operator in the commonwealth to be certified as carbon neutral by the nonprofit Carbonfund’s Carbonfree Certification Program. The nonprofit’s assessment determined that 1,626.5 metric tons of carbon emissions from Organic Remedies will be offset by global forestry projects.
“We understand our responsibility is to not only produce quality products, but also to do so in a way that does not harm the environment,” Organic Remedies CEO Mark Toigo said in a press release. “Offsetting our carbon emissions is another step we are taking to reduce the strain on the environment and protect our planet for generations to come.”
RYTHM Cannabis
RYTHM Cannabis and The Capitol Theater hosted the fourth annual Free Dead in the Park concert with a performance by Stella Blues Band in New York City’s Central Park on May 16. The show was a benefit for Riverkeeper, a member-supported organization that protects and restores the Hudson River and safeguards drinking water supplies through advocacy and community partnerships, science and law.
Ben Kovler, the founder and CEO of RYTHM’s parent company, Green Thumb Industries, called the Riverkeeper’s work “invaluable.”
“Giving back to local communities is core to our mission, and what better way to do so than while celebrating the music of the Grateful Dead,” Kovler said.
