Cannabis startups land on LinkedIn Top 50 list
Three cannabis-related companies were among LinkedIn’s 2022 Top 50 Startups list, highlighting the continued growth and importance of the recreational cannabis market.
Ranking highest at No. 16 was Dutchie, a software company that supports e-commerce for the cannabis industry and creates a cohesive experience for dispensaries from point-of-sale to payments. Founded in Bend, Oregon, in 2016, Dutchie now has 710 employees.
Cannabis market intelligence platform Headset ranked No. 30 this year. Founded in Seattle in 2015, Headset provides its customers with data and analysis around consumer trends, retail insights and purchasing behavior and employs 55 people.
Finally, at No. 38 was Oakland-based Treez, makers of a cloud-based supply chain software designed to streamline everything from sales to inventory management for retailers and major brands alike. Founded in 2016, Treez has achieved 331% revenue growth in the past three years and now employs 185 people. It has been named to the Inc. 5000 each of the past two years.
Also making the LinkedIn list, though not directly connected to the cannabis industry, was Verkada, a California-based software company that makes cloud-managed building security systems for the cannabis industry, as well as schools, banks and community centers. The company was founded in 2016 and today employs 1,255. It was No. 11 on the Top 50 Startups list.
To compile the sixth annual list, LinkedIn analyzed data across four pillars: employee growth; jobseeker interest; member engagement within the company and its employees; and how well these startups pulled talent from the LinkedIn Top Companies list. To be eligible, companies must have been founded no earlier than 2015.
