Bloom Montana
The opening of its 24th cannabis retail store marks Bloom Montana as not just an industry leader in the Big Sky State but one of the top dispensary chains in the entire United States.
The company’s newest shop opened in Whitefish, Montana, and caters to both medical and recreational customers. With its proximity to both the Whitefish Mountain ski resort and Glacier National Park, the new shop is well-positioned to capitalize on the area’s abundant outdoor activities.
“This new space allows us to enhance the overall experience for our valued customers, providing a welcoming environment where they can explore and discover their preferred cannabis products,” says Adam Kunin, co-owner and chief operating officer of Bloom Montana.
Green Qween
Los Angeles-based cannabis retailer Green Qween was designed from the round up as a “qweer” brand. But co-founders Andrés Rigal and Taylor Bazley are doing more than giving the LGBTQ+ and BIPOC communities a store to shop in and priority shelf space dedicated to community-owned brands. Green Qween also donates 10% of their profits to LGBTQ+ charities such as the DTLA Proud Community Center, a nonprofit dedicated to providing the community with numerous services including workspaces, community events and a marketplace.
Green Qween opened its 4,000-square-foot Downtown Los Angeles retail store in April 2022. The retail store has amassed numerous accolades and has built a dedicated following of customers from both inside and outside the LGBTQ+ and BIPOC communities.
Insa
In May, Insa opened its third medical dispensary in Massachusetts, to go along with two adult-use shops, making it the only company in the commonwealth with five cannabis retail locations open.
The new location in Avon is Insa’s first on Massachusetts’ South Shore.
“Our new location further expands the brand across our home state, providing cannabis access to more medical patients in a region of the state we have yet to serve,” co-founder and CEO Peter Gallagher said. “At Insa, we like to say that our products are cultivated by real people for real people, and we truly believe in that message.”
The vertically integrated company also has eight medical dispensaries and a delivery service in Florida and plans to open shops in Connecticut and Ohio in 2023. In addition to Florida and Massachusetts, the company also has wide distribution through wholesale partners in Pennsylvania.
Sunderstorm
At a time when many cannabis companies are scaling back, Sunderstorm is expanding its award-winning lineup by acquiring Abide Brands, the Nevada-based parent company of Bounti Vapes.
Abide Brands marks the first acquisition for Sunderstorm, which recently had its best month ever (March 2023) and saw revenue rise by 10.12% in Q1 2023 compared to the previous quarter. The purchase price was a combination of stock and $100,000 cash.
Sunderstorm was founded in California in 2015 and has since expanded into Colorado, Massachusetts and Nevada. It expects to be one of the first U.S. brands to break into the market in Thailand later this year. The company is widely known for its KANHA brand of gummies and other edibles.
“We’ve built this machine to scale and last, and we’re ready to leverage it for future growth,” says Cameron Clarke, co-founder and CEO of Sunderstorm. “By bringing Abide Brands into the fold, we’re adding a new product category and accomplished team members to our expanding Nevada presence.”
The Source
Continuing its longstanding commitment to support a wide range of community organizations, The Source in June announced it would be donating proceeds from its round-up program to a pair of nonprofit partners.
Throughout the month of June, in celebration of Pride month, customers at The Source’s Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, Henderson and Reno retail stores could elect to round up their purchases to benefit Equality Nevada, a nonprofit charity and advocacy organization dedicated to the LGBTQ+ community; customers at the Pahrump location could round up their purchases to support Minorities for Medical Marijuana, a nonprofit providing advocacy, outreach, research and training for minorities in the cannabis industry.
Since opening in 2015, The Source has donated more than $730,000 from various fundraising programs to local nonprofits, including Three Square, Pets Are Worth Saving, Opportunity Village, Helping Hands of Las Vegas, Community Counseling Centers of Southern Nevada, and The Cupcake Girls.
