David Drake has been methodically tracing the origins of the cannabis plant for more than 15 years, and built Cannabis Reports to bring more clarity to strain recognition.

The site has grown into a catalogue of more than 30,000 cannabis-related products, making it one of the most encyclopedic resources on the Internet.

While Drake believes the terminology will move toward a more scientific approach to different strains, he doesn’t see the thousands of different strain names as being detrimental for the cannabis community.

“Beer and wine companies have seasonal offerings that also have crazy names; does that mean their conventions are haphazard?” he asks. “I don’t think so; I think they’re celebrating the variety of their craft.”
