Every business experiences human resource challenges and cannabis companies are no exception. When it comes time to make a shift, especially within a small business like L’Eagle, evaluating talent and hiring great employees who believe in the company mission and philosophy is critical. With a role as significant as lead cultivator, it’s even more vital. Our business begins in our grow. And when you pride yourself on clean cultivation methods, like we do, handing the reins over can seem like a daunting task. The fact is, there are like-minded, qualified individuals up for the job.
L’Eagle’s mission is to be as environmentally sustainable as possible and to provide consumers with access to 100% clean cannabis. Not only are we aware of the sustainability and transparency issues within our industry, but we are actively trying to improve them. This includes making the right choice at every step of the way, including hiring new staff members.
Recently we welcomed Phillip Jacobson to the team as our director of cultivation. Phillip’s role at L’Eagle is paramount to everything we do. He brings with him nearly two decades of experience cultivating cannabis. Phillip has a bachelor’s degree in organismic biology and environmental studies, and a master’s degree in geological sciences. More importantly, he brings with him a passion for sustainable operations, tools and technologies.
Within the first few weeks under Phillip’s leadership, L’Eagle was approved for Clean Green Certification, recognizing sustainable business practices within the cannabis industry. It means that in addition to following state regulations and our own internal testing processes, L’Eagle withstood rigorous on-site inspections and third-party lab testing. Analysis of our soil, nutrients and non-synthetic pesticide use are also required.
In addition to ongoing cultivation team management, Phillip is responsible for ensuring plant health and overseeing the implementation of Clean Green practices. Phillip will transition L’Eagle from mineral-based nutrients to a fully organic nutrient regimen.
Managing organizational changes can be a challenge, particularly when filling a leadership role. It can also provide an opportunity to enhance your team with passionate, driven individuals with the skills to take your company’s mission to the next level.
