The good news is that since Jan. 1, 2017, we’ve doubled our production and are a hair away from tripling our sales, all while maintaining brand
This might be the most boring Living the Dream writeup ever as I have nothing to complain about.
Jan. 1, 2018 marked four years since we began this crazy adventure, and for the first time, I can see the light. Our staff at Trail Blazin’ is not only competent, efficient and great, but they are happy. We are rhythmically swinging between a production and an inventory problem, which is good in business; it means we’re growing.
Trail Blazin’ is also getting media attention at just the right intervals to stay in people’s faces, but not monopolizing the media: from business magazines to cannabis journals to national videos to being named “Best of” in our local markets. The legislative session hasn’t started yet so we’re not running down to the Capitol every few days. Business industry associations are welcoming the cannabis industry with open arms.
Shoot, I’ve been to the gym twice in the last week, after taking a three-and-a-half-year hiatus because there just wasn’t any time in the day. My husband Juddy was able to chaperone our 7-year-old’s field trip to Western Washington University (our alma mater) AND we were able to go trick-or-treating. I might even get a Christmas card out this year!
Everything is on the up and up. I feel like all the hard work we’ve put in over the last four years was worth it.
Now, don’t think for a minute I’m going to become complacent. I can name two dozen things that need to be fixed on a local level: clarifying cannabis as agriculture in Washington state, lab standardization, over-regulation, tax restructuring, standardization of enforcement, etc. And of course, there is even more on a federal level, but sometimes you have to stop and smell the roses.
It’s easy to get lost in the problems of our industry, but for that short period of time when everything seems to be aligned, don’t forget to enjoy it. Things are really good right now and I am determined to be present and thankful.
