Amazing Retail Designs
Retailers across North America are upping their game, enlisting A-list design firms from inside and outside the cannabis industry to stand out and to keep customers coming back for years to come.
While some of the following stores reside in well-established markets and set the bar high for competitors, others operate in newer markets and act as ambassadors for the entire industry.
Marijuana Venture spoke with the leading designers behind many of these retail stores to get insight on the design decisions and why they work in their respective markets.
Pure Options
Lansing, Michigan
When it came time to design a completely new retail concept for Pure Options’ flagship location in the Frandor neighborhood of Lansing, Michigan, owner and CEO Sam Usman Jr. hired SevenPoint Interiors, the Toronto-based retail design and manufacturing firm.
Usman wanted a look and feel that would capture the vibe of the brand’s previous retail spaces but with a more refined experience.
Taking inspiration from Pure Options’ signature hexagonal logo, which is prominent throughout the chain’s other locations, the SevenPoint team designed a clean, crisp, modern-industrial feel for the retail space, utilizing the stark black, white and gray tones in a masterclass in retail design.
The shopping experience starts with a reception space similar to a luxury day spa. The sliding glass doors just past the reception area open into the bright sales floor that emphasizes the building’s original industrial fixtures as well as the angled display tables and minimalist and modern shelving along the walls.
Among the displays is a spheric, stainless-steel flower capsule of the firm’s own design, which magnifies cannabis while keeping the flower fresh in its moisture-packed chamber. It allows the customers to not only get a clear view of the flower’s structure and trichomes, but also its scent, thanks to the gravity-sensor valve that safely releases the aroma of the product.
