A real estate attorney by trade, Tom Sheridan says he has always had a connection to cannabis, kind of.
“I actually grew up in Weed, California,” he says with a laugh. “Which is ironic, right?”
Sheridan is the new CEO of MWG Holdings, the vertically integrated company that owns the Perfect Union retail cannabis chain of 10 stores in California and five in New Mexico. In 2012, while working as an attorney, Sheridan and some associates formed MWG Holdings. He worked as vice president of business development for the company and then took a position on the board while he worked on building a separate cultivation facility and founding the Blueprint brand.
Sheridan says his background in real estate uniquely qualified him for the industry because so much of it revolves around zoning requirements and other site-specific factors.
“What actually provided a lot of opportunities early on was the ability to do deals that other people couldn’t do,” he says. “I’m looking forward to deploying that skill set again.”
Back with MWG and Perfect Union, the serial entrepreneur says he’ll be looking at “every aspect of the business” with the goal of restructuring the company to ensure profitability at every level moving forward as the company looks to new opportunities and growth, even in difficult economic times.
“We’re going to be here for the long term,” Sheridan says. “We are looking to put our stamp on the cannabis industry as a whole and we’re excited to be a premier cannabis retailer in the years to come.”
