The long wait for cannabis consumption lounges in Las Vegas is over; Smoke and Mirrors, the first state-licensed cannabis lounge in Nevada, opened on February 23, 2024, nearly three years after legislation allowed for the new business model.
Located just off the Las Vegas Strip, Smoke and Mirrors made its first sale to Tick Segerblom, the Clark County Commission chairman and longtime advocate of legal cannabis, at 4:20 p.m. The lounge opening was a collaborative effort between RESET, a consulting firm focused on cannabis hospitality, and Thrive Cannabis Marketplace, the adjacent dispensary and parent company of Smoke and Mirrors.
“We are beyond excited to have unveiled the first state-licensed cannabis lounge in Las Vegas,” RESET managing partner Christopher LaPorte said in a press release. “Our goal is not just to create a space for cannabis enthusiasts, but to create a social hub for our guests. With Smoke and Mirrors’ remarkable array of products, we aim to provide an unforgettable experience that will leave a lasting impression.”
“Thrive has always been known for setting the bar for operational standards and quality cannabis experiences, and we are thrilled to be at the forefront of this historic moment in Las Vegas as we continue to revolutionize the cannabis industry,” said Mitch Britten, managing partner and CEO of Thrive Cannabis Marketplace.
Smoke and Mirrors is technically the second consumption lounge in Las Vegas; NuWu, a dispensary owned by the Las Vegas Paiute Tribe and operated on sovereign land, opened a lounge in 2019, renaming it Sky High Lounge in 2023.
Smoke and Mirrors is the first lounge to open according to Assembly Bill 341, which authorized cannabis consumption lounges in the 2021 legislative session.
In addition to products purchased at Thrive, Smoke and Mirrors patrons can enjoy hand-crafted, alcohol-free cannabis cocktails, including The Godfather (featuring anise, blueberry puree, lime juice, pineapple juice, agave nectar and basil leaves) and the Evolve (featuring cinnamon, apple juice and vanilla syrup). The lounge will also entertain guests with a variety of music and social events.
