Today, history is being read and history is being written. All of us in the cannabis history are part of the latter; every day we are writing the history of the legalization of cannabis.
In Washington state, we are now at a point where prices are dropping. Some farms are struggling to keep the doors open, while other farms are expanding product lines, improving processes and increasing sales each month.
There are many variables that come into play in determining success or failure to us industry pioneers.
Every single person who threw their hat in the ring and took a chance on opening a business should be commended. It is a difficult process to get started and even harder to become successful. We each have to make our own path and find our own tools for success.
The cornerstone of success I’m relying upon is commitment. Commitment is the drive to never give up, never give in and never willingly accept failure. Being committed as an entrepreneur means writing out your plans and your goals, then pursuing them with all your heart — no matter what. My commitment is to my family. I am committed to teaching and showing my children that anything is possible, hard work pays off, believe in yourself and always chase your dreams. I’m chasing my dream and living the adventure of being one of the few legal cannabis farmers in the world.
I love the quote, “If you know your why, you can endure any how.” There are many days that you have to put your head down and grind it out when everything seems like a struggle, but on those days I just remember why I’m doing it. An old worn picture on the dash of my truck, a finger-painting of a lion, a loving text from my wife; those little things give me the fuel to keep putting on the work boots and heading to the farm.
