Shawn Kemp is a Seattle legend. A first round NBA draft pick, Kemp played for the Seattle SuperSonics from 1989 to 1997. In that time, he garnered a huge fan base, led the Sonics with his high-flying attack and forever established himself as a local hero and legend. Nicknamed “The Reign Man,” Kemp has been a fixture in the Seattle area for decades and has been more than generous with his time and money in support of local causes and events.
Three years ago, Shawn Kemp’s Cannabis opened on First Avenue in downtown Seattle. Known for its great selection, friendly staff and competitive pricing, Kemp’s quickly established itself as one of the go-to pot shops in the heart of the city.
Co-owners Tran Du, Shawn Kemp and Ramsey Hamide understood right from the start that Seattle was still lamenting the loss of the much-loved Sonics — who moved to Oklahoma City in 2008 — and decided that the Kemp stores would also be a shrine to the basketball team the city revered for more than 40 years from its beginnings as an expansion team in 1967. A second store recently opened in the SODO neighborhood; both stores are adorned with murals and artwork that have been seen and visited by tens of thousands of NBA and Sonics fans.
If you happen to be in the neighborhood, stop by and say hello to “The Reign Man.” He’ll appreciate it!
