Poor management is a top driver of employee turnover according to a report by the tech hiring platform engin. The companyβs Employer Brand Report analyzed employee reviews of the top 50 cannabis companies on the website Glassdoor and found poor management as the top complaint from employees.
The report showed that the average 1-5 rating for the top 50 cannabis businesses was 2.83, 14% lower than the general industry benchmark of 3.3, which only 22.5% of cannabis businesses analyzed surpassed.
The report found that a majority, 44%, of the company reviews were negative, with employees citing complaints about work-life balance concerns, low pay, limited growth potential and poor communication. Positive reviews accounted for 38% for the companies analyzed, with employees citing great coworkers and positive work environments as the top benefits followed by learning opportunities and decent benefits. About 18% of the reviews were neutral.
The report said the standout companies in terms of top ratings with a decent number of reviews were Green Thumb Industries, Aurora Cannabis and Tilray, and the companies showing the best overall improvement was Curaleaf followed by Kanha and Aurora Cannabis.
The report also found that 45% of employees would recommend a position at the top 50 companies.
